The Devil and Miss Prym by Paulo Coelho comes to mind, though it isn't new; almost 20 years old (2000). Does it have to be published since a certain year?

Subject: A Stranger Comes to Town
Tolstoy said it - “All great literature is one of two stories; a man goes on a journey or a stranger comes to town.”
I'm looking for stories where someone comes into a settled community and throws it into chaos, leaving the community to examine itself in new ways.
Here's the catch, and it's gonna cause me problems: It's for my Contemporary Fiction discussion, so I'm especially looking for non-genre (even those that "transcend their genre") titles. <winces,

Any suggestions?
