I'm working with a user who is looking for "queer (non-heterosexual)  
women and/or non-binary (non-women/non-men) characters", having  
enjoyed Boy21 and Perks of Being a Wallflower, and looking for similar  
themes featuring people in their early 20s.

I'm looking through the Lambda Awards; the Rainbow Booklist is great,  
but is geared towards younger readers.

Any suggestions?
