Subject: Books with vivid interior imagery for college students

Hello,

I'm helping a professor that teaches a course where college students read a book and draw what they "see" described. She is particularly interested in descriptive interiors of buildings, but vivid imagery and scenery is also welcome. She is looking for books that are also accessible to college students who might not read fiction as much. She partially wants to introduce students to reading for pleasure. She was hoping it would be entertaining and not depressing. It can be YA or adult and any genre (but probably not horror). She was considering The Great Alone by K. Hannah, but upon re-reading it felt that the domestic violence might by too triggering for students. She thought Neil Gaiman was too wordy and students may not find it accessible.

She has previously used the Night Circus for the assignment which worked well. She is also considering Dark Matter by B. Crouch (for the space with the doors).

Does anyone have recommendations for vivid fiction, especially of interiors, that might have wide appeal to college students.

Thank you in advance,
Nick
