I have to agree with Lesley on most of her points. There are thousands
of manga titles available in English, and a generic "essential" list
would include tons of stuff. An "essential" collection for a public
library is going to be different than one at an academic library, and
so forth.

However, some of you may find the information in the Best and Worst
Manga 2016 panel (that featured librarian Eva Volin) that happened at
San Diego Comic Con a few weeks ago useful. You can find it here:
