One I really loved, a contemporary written in 2000, is CLOSE ENCOUNTERS by Sandra Kitt. A black professor is shot in a drug bust gone wrong and the white police officer she comes to know, and fall for, may be the one who fired the shot that injured her.

I really loved this one because of the human-ness of the h/h and how real their issues are. There are some deeper themes here, but the author doesn't let it get heavy.

Subject: Books Featuring Interracial Couples

Hi Everyone,

I'm currently a library school student at San Jose State University and I'm looking for adult fiction recommendations for titles that feature interracial couples, in particular those that feature a black woman/white man (bw/wm) relationship. I'm searching for contemporary romances specifically although I am open to other genres. I recently read Until I Saw Your Smile by J.J. Murray and loved it. It featured a bw/wm that met in a coffee shop and eventually fall in love. I liked the book because the characters seemed realistic while the story wasn't overly depressing. I've also read the Berger and Mitry mystery series (which also features a bw/wm relationship). Again, I found the interactions between the characters to be realistic and enjoyable to read. Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much!

Teisha Allen
