Lynn,

Thanks so much. The patron happens to be here again today, though, and is pretty sure "Two from Galilee" is not the book she's looking for. She's going to try it anyway, though, just in case her memory is faulty.

We have a patron doing the same thing, and although he has read biographies
by many different historians, he has much enjoyed the Presidents series
edited by Arthur Schlesinger Jr. and Sean Wilentz in particular. . Here's
a link to the publisher's website:

Subject: "Christmas Story" book...not Jean Shepard's

Hi, everyone,

Here's a seasonal request. A patron is looking for a book she read in 1979. She doesn't remember the author or the title, or even what the cover looked like. The book is a novelization of Jesus' birth and the events leading up to it. She particularly remembers what an excellent job the author did of providing backstories for all the characters involved.

A search of WorldCat, Amazon, Wikipedia, and even just Google didn't net anything she recognized. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks so much,

Janet

"Two from Galilee" by Marjorie Holmes originally came out in 1972. It's a very descriptive piece of historical fiction about Mary, Joseph, and their families. It ends at the manger scene.

The Abraham Lincoln Book Shop in Chicago has a bibliography on their website
-- the "Essential Presidential Book Shelf." It's a mix of single-volume and
multi-volume presidential biographies.

A patron is looking for a recommended reading list of single volume
presidential biographies.

I helped them select Washington: A Life by Ron Chernow, which won the 2011
Pulitzer Prize for Biography, from our shelves and they just checked that
out.

There is a lot information to sort through about presidential biographies
and I thought I would check-in with Fiction_L to see what books or book
lists everyone recommends as definitive, single volume, biographies of
presidents.

The patron is going to read them in order and would like to start with a
recommended list of presidents 2 – 9.

Thanks!

John
