I am trying desperately to find a book that I read in the mid-80’s. I loaned it to a friend and never retrieved it back. I don’t know the author or the title — only the theme. Probably published in early 80’s or late 70’s. It is fiction but based on WW 2. A soldier was injured or shot down over Belgium and was taken in and nursed to health by a farm family. He recovered physically but had amnesia and didn’t know who he was or anything about his former life. Meanwhile he fell in love with the daughter and was going to marry her when he did regain his memory. He came from a wealthy family back in NYC and was engaged to be married. He goes back home to make things right. In the meantime, the young girl he loves back in Belgium is pregnant with his child only she doesn’t tell him. I can’t remember what happens from that point on and I desperately want to read this book again and have a copy. If anyone out there can help me I would greatly appreciate your help. My friend who put me on this email site is a very reliable librarian and says it has a good reputation. Somehow the couple get back together but I don’t remember how.
Thanks for your help. Reply to [log in to unmask]
