I haven't read any really good bios of Thomas Jefferson, but Joseph
Ellis' American Sphinx (described as a study of his psychology) is
probably the most insightful. Of course, if you want to read the man
himself, his Notes of the State of Virginia and the excised New
Testament called the Jefferson Bible are both very good.
