As you know, a lot of thrillers are part of a series, many of which
stretch back into The Naughties, if not before. That's something worth
having the reader check before they get invested in a title that has a
significant backstory. Also, I have a *lot* of opinions on what passes
for thrillers these days, but I won't waste your time expounding on
them here.
My list:
*61 Hours, Lee Child (best of the 2010 - 2017 Reacher novels IMHO, and
Reacher is the best series going right now)
*Espionage / Conspiracy
The Tourist, Olen Steinhauer
Slow Horses, Mick Herron
Zero Day, David Baldacci
Brent Ghelfi, Volk's Game
Taylor Stevens, The Informationist
Josh Bazell, Beat the Reaper
*Forensic
Kathy Reichs, Temperance Brennan Series
*Law Enforcement
Ace Atkins, The Ranger
Edge, Jeffrey Deaver
Supernatural
Joe Hill, Horns
Michael Korytam Cypress House
Crime
Duane Swierczynski's Accident People
Medical
Michael Palmer, The Last Surgeon
Military
James Huston, Falcon Seven (could also count as legal)
same with Richard North Patterson, In the Name of Honor
No idea where I'd put World War Z, and it isn't precisely a thriller,
but man, what a read!
