Not sure if this answers the question, but I know the Queens (NY)
library at one point had a conference call book group that was doing
well the last I heard of it, but that was many years ago.

We tried a bulletin board discussion group just before blogs and other
social media took off, and it flew like a lead balloon. That could
have been because our community lagged behind the digital revolution
or for any one of a hundred other reasons.

I'd love to hear how it works for the library in question.
