Thanks Katelyn and Abby! I’ll share these with my colleague and let you know which one is “the one”.

Well, that’s definitely a better option than the “cover with a boy on grass looking at a coin” than anything I found!

However, in terms of “a moose head with magical powers and brings things to life,” the closest option I found was “The Marvelous Land of Oz” (also called “The Land of Oz”) by L. Frank Baum, which is the sequel to “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.” In the story, there is a head of an elk-like creature called the Gump, which is mounted on a plaque and is brought back to life by the Powder of Life. In the movie version, it does look rather moose-like. The Powder of Life is also utilized on multiple other items throughout the story to bring them to life, including Jack Pumpkinhead.

Here’s a link to the description in my library catalog:

The entry for the Gump in the Oz Wiki:

https://oz.fandom.com/wiki/Gump_(Novels)#:~:text=He%20appears%20in%20Baum%27s%20second,pride%20and%20an%20independent%20spirit.

While the novel covers don’t exactly match the given description, the cover for the Marvel graphic novel adaptation for “The Marvelous Land of Oz” does have a boy on grass, but no coin:

Hope this helps!

Could it be Stranger Things, part of the Looniverse series by David Lubar?

Here's a link with the description and cover: https://www.scholastic.com/site/branches/looniverse.html

And the linkcat link, if that helps: https://www.linkcat.info/app/work/964836

A colleague had this come in:

"We have a young patron looking for a book he may have checked out from SEQ.  There is a boy on the cover looking at grass with a dime.  In the story there is a moose head that has magical powers and brings things to life."

Ring any bells?
