Hi Gretchen,
There is a fairly new (arguably 🙂 ) genre out there called LitRPG that feature characters, sometimes solo, sometimes in a "party" that interact with a game world/computer game or in a gamelike setting.

From The Urban Writer<https://theurbanwriters.com/blogs/publishing/litrpg-genre-that-s-revolutionizing-fiction>'s website:
LitRPG (Literary Role-Playing Game) is an emerging genre of fiction that combines the experience of digital role-playing games with traditional narrative plotlines. It weaves a story around a protagonist that consciously immerses themselves in a virtual world to follow the quests and challenges set by the game realm.

Here is a fantastic blog post from Laterpress<https://www.laterpress.com/blog/what-is-litrpg> all about it with some reading recommendations near the end.

These are mostly self-published or Indie presses and as such they vary in content/quality so you need to do a fair bit of checking on them if they fit your collection guidelines.

Outside of those, I would highly recommend a book called Erebos<https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/12930791-erebos>.

Subject: Books like Final Fantasy Games

I'm looking for books like Final Fantasy games. YA or Adult. Lots of worldbuilding, prefer fantasy to steampunk, gang of unlikely heroes with individual talents, friendship, cool magic system, epic plot, travel and maps. Liked Six of Crows and Name of the Wind, not really into graphic novels. Thanks!
